Pondering Thoughts: An Ode To My Love
*** PAG-IBIG, KAILANGAN KO’Y IKAW ***
Ang mga pagmamahal mo sa akin
Tulad ng sabi mo ay isang piging
Mga pasakit at mga paghihirap
Ay tuluyan kong binigyan ng irap.
Magkasama saanman magpunta
Nagmamahalan na parang iba
Sa mga suliranin mo sa mundo
Ay sa akin ka pa napatayo.
Bakit ba ganito ka sa akin?
Ano ba ang kaugnayan natin?
Ah! Magkaibigan pala tayo
Tulad ng mga sinasabi ko.
Sa tuwing tayo ay magkikita
Tampulan tayo ng biro at tuwa
At dahil sa iyong kilos, gawa
At salita ay naibig na kita.
Sa pagdaraan ng mga ilang araw
Namalas kong ikaw ay namanglaw
Tinanong kita at ang sabi mo
Iniibig mo pala ako.
Ngunit ito ay di ko pinansin
Hindi ko rin binibigyan ng diin
Marami pang araw ang lumipas
Di na kita nakitang lumabas.
Maging makasarili’y ginawa
Ngunit puso’y di mawatasan
Sa pag-iisa ko ay kasama
Ang mga ala-alang nakaraan.
Pinilit kong ika’y kalimutan
Ngunit hindi ko mapag-aralan
Minsan pa ikaw ay hinahanap
Tanging lumipas ang nalalanghap.
Kaibigan, mahal pala kita
Ngunit ito ay laging huli na
Ang nasasambit ko sa tuwina
Pag-ibig, kailangan koy ikaw!

Final Series: "The List" #3 - Thirty Crazy Things I Would Love To Do
This is the final series of the guessing game I posted in twitter and Facebook. For a backgrounder, please refer to my post entitled "Series 1: The List #3 - Thirty Crazy Things I Would Love To Do" dated 1/29/2012.
This list is one of the lists I'd started compiling when I was still in senior high school. The first one is a list of "Places I Would Like To See", the second ''Things I Would Like To Do', and the third "Crazy Things I Would Love To Do". As I grew-up, I added ''to do'" and "to see" items in my lists. Nowadays, the list is called "bucket list". I still insist of calling it "the list"...
Today, as I browse through my list, I can easily get a glimpse of the state of my mind and feelings as I added items to my list. I was so romantic and idealistic when I was in high school, daring in college, tamed in my early years of working and growing a family, and now, more romantic and daring again...
Senior High School
1. Ask a stranger to go on a date!
2. Kiss someone I've just met on a date without revealing my real identity!
3. Talk to Jose Rizal in a ‘Spirit of the Glass’ session and ask him if he fathered a child!
4. Skip a class and invite my crush to see a movie!
5. Get stranded in a remote island with my crush!
College
6. Go to a disco club alone and act as if I know everybody!
7. Get tipsy with good company and attend class while feeling tipsy!
8. Write a poem for my crush and read it aloud in front of the class!
9. Collect bits and pieces of my special one!
10. Fly a jet fighter!
11. Skinny-dipping at midnight in the South of France!
12. Sleep on a forest floor with all the wild animals around!
13. Fly over an active volcano!
14. Snake tattoo on my nape!
15. Fall in love deeply --- helplessly and unconditionally!
16. Court a guy I like!
17. Write my love story and send it to television/radio program!
18. Seduce my special friend and eventually dump him once he has fallen!
19. Drive a high speed car for fun!
Early Working Days
20. Form an all female rock band, play the drums, and do a concert!
21. Volunteer as a firefighter in a day and to make sure that we have a fire incident to respond to, I will burn a house or a building to the ground!
22. Fly a bush plane into deeper Africa and walk/run with the wilds!
23. Join a freestyle motorcross!
24. Cruise around the seas without any destination!
Few years back and present
25. Cliff Diving in an Open Ocean!
26. Sleep under the moon and stars with the beach sand as my bed; and do star and sky gazing!
27. Do Nothing, Allowing CHANCE to RULE my Life!
28. Make fun of myself by acting foolish!
29. Backpacking around the world, randomly selecting destination regardless of the means of transportation, stay in a place I liked as long as I can stay, and write a book about it!
30. Splurge on a date with my special someone by spending my one year income in just one day (just the two of us and no buying anything tangible)!
For this final series, a complete list is provided.

#30 Crazy Things I Would Love To Do
“SPLURGE ON A DATE WITH MY SPECIAL SOMEONE BY SPENDING MY ONE YEAR INCOME IN JUST ONE DAY (JUST THE TWO OF US AND NO BUYING ANYTHING TANGIBLE)!”
For my #30 and final crazy thing, I intended to get ideas from Guess-ters. As of today, I don't have any idea on how to accomplish this crazy idea. Sadly, out of the more than 200 guesses, I was able to get only few ideas:
- Different meals in 3 different countries/continent!
- Shopping from one country to another in just one day!
- Travel in 3 different countries!
- Travel light and design a triathlon event in 3 different countries (one event per country). 1st event: 1km swimming in a caribbean country (us/british virgin island / bermuda triangle, or bahamas). 2nd: 1km cycling using only a foldable bike or a BMX in a dessert (try if you can). 3rd: 5km vertical run in one of the tallest buildings in the world ( Burj Khalifa in Dubai or in Shanghai World Financial Center, China)!

This is the 21st series of the guessing game I posted in twitter and facebook. For a backgrounder, please refer to my post entitled "Series 1: The List #3 - Thirty Crazy Things I Would Love To Do" dated 1/29/2012.
#28 - 29 Crazy Things I Would Love To Do
For the #s 28 and 29, some of the ideas to accomplish these crazy things were generated from the guesses provided in my Facebook and dSampayan blog.
#28 “MAKE FUN OF MYSELF BY ACTING FOOLISH!”
My Ideas
Wear outlandish, sexiest, and daring attire with high heels, then direct the traffic in a heavy and busy intersection!
Sing karaoke in a plane travel while the passengers are taking meals.
Have a date with my persistent suitor in a posh restaurant, then order a diet water and while the waiter is explaining that they don’t have diet water, stand-up and walk towards the door while shouting “what kind of restaurant is this? They don’t even have a diet water”!
Attend a church wedding of a couple I didn’t even know, wearing all blacks complete with accessories, and when the time that the Priest will ask if there is anyone who will stop the wedding; stand-up and shout “stop the wedding” while running towards the door.
In a product presentation, ask the one presenting of what’s the added value of their product/service to the company. As he/she starts to explain, talk on the phone while simultaneously typing on my computer. After 5 minutes, ask him/her the same question.
Begin all my sentences “in accordance with the prophecy”!

#26 - 27 Crazy Things I Would Love To Do
“SWITCH from ACTIVE to PASSIVE MODE!”
After those jolts of adrenaline in series #19, I imagine myself abruptly changing from an active to passive mode. Passive mode would allow me to calm my senses and nerves. I believe that there are activities that would stimulate a calming, relaxing, serene, quiet, restful environment.
#26 “SLEEP UNDER THE MOON AND STARS WITH THE BEACH SAND AS MY BED AND DO STAR AND SKY GAZING!”
While lying in the beach sand... TRACE the heavenly bodies..... COUNT the STARS….. TALK to the MOON!
#27 “DO NOTHING, ALLOWING CHANCE TO RULE MY LIFE!”
Doing nothing, but eat, love, rest, and sleep!
Be senseless for a time… let fate decides!

Extreme Quests for My Adrenaline Rushes
In my search for an activity that would satisfy my thirst for adrenaline rush, I imagined myself doing some pursuits that can be characterized as exciting, dangerous or threatening. An adrenaline rush gives us temporary feeling of being high. And to some, it's another form of addiction.
#21 “VOLUNTEER AS A FIREFIGHTER FOR A DAY and to make sure that we have a fire incident to respond to, I will BURN A HOUSE OR BUILDING TO THE GROUND!”
#22 “FLY A BUSH PLANE INTO DEEPER AFRICA AND WALK/RUN WITH THE WILD!"
Wild safaris are very common in Africa. I intend to do the same, injecting some activities that would make it more thrilling and exciting. For one, I would fly the bush plane myself and probably go alone... landing in the remotest part of Africa. Instead of riding a secured car, I would just walk or run unprotected with the wild animals. I visualized being the predator in the 'predator-prey process'.
#23 “JOIN A FREESTYLE MOTOCROSS”
I considered motocross as one of the most daring sport I fantasized doing. Motocross is a physically demanding sport held in all weather conditions. Freestyle Motocross, otherwise known as FMX is a variation of motocross in which motorcycle riders do dangerous tricks and stunts through natural jumps and drop-offs.
#24 “CRUISE AROUND THE SEAS WITHOUT ANY DESTINATION”

Simply sail… sail… and sail... until, I reach a land!
#25 #iamcrazy to “CLIFF DIVE INTO AN OPEN OCEAN”
Cliff diving in its simplest definition is diving into the water from a steep cliff. This is regarded as a risky sport that should only be done by divers trained to soar from extreme heights. I wanted to do the Bella's Cliff Diving Scene in New Moon (Twilight Series).

#20 Crazy Things I Would Love To Do
FORM AN ALL FEMALE ROCK BAND, PLAY THE DRUMS, AND DO A CONCERT
My cravings for some artistic rendition led me to my obsession of forming an all female rock band. It was in the early ‘90s that I started to like rock bands. I toyed with the idea for sometime and even asked my girlfriends to join me. I fantasized playing the drums, creating my own style. I wanted to fashion a rock band as a fusion of the four influential and famous rock bands: Nirvana, Red Hot Chili Peppers, U2, and Pearl Jam. A short description of these bands are discussed below.
- Nirvana was formed by singer/guitarist Kurt Cobain and bassist Krist Novoselic in Aberdeen, Washington in 1987. It is an American rock band that developed a sound that relied on dynamic contrasts, often between quiet verses and loud, heavy choruses. Nirvana popularized alternative rock as a whole, and Cobain was referred to in the media as the "spokesman of a generation”. The band had sold more than 25 million records in the United States alone, and over 75 million records worldwide.
- Red Hot Chili Peppers was founded by Anthony Kiedes (vocals) and Michael "Flea" Balzary (bass). It is an American rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1983. The band’s style is primarily funk with some elements from other genres such as hip hop, punk rock, and psychedelic rock. Notable about the band is that they embraced the sexual hedonism that powered the earlier acts of rock and roll, bringing that lascivious spirit to the modern age. The Red Hot Chili Peppers have won seven Grammy Awards and sold over 85 million albums worldwide, and recently had been inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
- U2 was formed in 1976. It is an Irish rock band from Dublin. The group consists of Bono (vocals and guitar), The Edge (guitar, keyboards and vocals), Adam Clayton(bass guitar), and Larry Mullen, Jr. (drums and percussion). U2's style is a mixed of dance, industrial, and alternative rock. It embraced a more ironic and self-deprecating image. Their songs are often exaggerates spiritual imagery, focus on personal themes and socio-political concerns. The band won 22 Grammy Awards, more than any other band, and in 2005, they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in their first year of eligibility. Throughout their career, as a band and as individuals, they have campaigned for human rights and philanthropic causes, including Amnesty International, the ONE/DATA campaigns, Product Red, and The Edge's Music Rising.
- Pearl Jam is an American rock band that was formed in Seattle, Washington, in 1990. Its singer Eddie Vedder is a lethal combination of manly good looks, socially-conscious lyricist and volcanic vocalist. Pearl Jam’s brand of heavy, melodic rock encompasses sensitive ballads and enraged protest songs. Over the course of the band's career, its members became noted for their refusal to adhere to traditional music industry practices, including refusing to make music videos and engaging in a much-publicized boycott of Ticketmaster. The band has sold over 31.5 million records in the U.S., and an estimated 60 million worldwide. Pearl Jam has outlasted many of its contemporaries from the alternative rock breakthrough of the early 1990s, and is considered one of the most influential bands of the decade.

#19 Crazy Things I Would Love To Do
DRIVE A HIGH SPEED CAR FOR FUN
In my quest for a daring adventure, I nurtured a desire to experience driving a high speed car. It was indeed a peculiar interest at that time since I don’t even own a car and did not know yet how to drive. Nonetheless, I considered that it was rather a rare opportunity to drive a car at a minimum speed of 150 miles per hour just for fun. In my delightful moment of fantasizing, I succeeded crafting a wishful thinking that I referred to as my ----------------------------------
For my high speed driving experience, I had selected six (6) of the high speed cars available today (information available in their respective websites were used as references to their descriptions). Any of these six cars will quench my thirst for high speed, adrenaline rush experience.
The Porsche 911 produced by Porsche AG of Stuttgart, Germany is a luxury 2-door sports coupe. It came in the 5th position in the 1999 international poll for the award of Car of the Century. 911 is pronounced as Nine Eleven, in German: Neunelfer. Accordingly, it is one of the oldest sports coupe nameplates still in production. The model that I am particularly interested is the GT3.
The Jaguar XK series (XK, XK8 and XKR) is manufactured by British company, Jaguar since 1996. It is a series of grand tourer cars, available in a coupe and convertible. The XK8 was the first 8-cylinder vehicle produced by Jaguar, when the Jaguar AJ-V8 engine was introduced. The new XK launched in 2006 was the second generation in the XK series. The second generation XK introduced an aluminium monocoque bodyshell, and is available both as a two-door coupé and two-door cabriolet/convertible, with just the engine and associated mechanicals being carried forwarded.
2012 CTS-V Sedan at 556 horsepower is the world’s fastest production sedan with 0-60 in a blistering 3.9 second. Complementing the epic power is a high-performance chassis fitted with the dual-mode Magnetic Ride Control suspension—tuned and perfected on Germany’s notorious Nürburgring racetrack—that reacts to changing demands in less time than the blink of an eye in both Touring and Track modes. Bringing it all to a halt is the massive stopping power of 6-piston front, 4-piston rear Brembo® brakes.
DREAM ADRENALINE RUSH OF MY LIFE!
Driving a car in high speed remains to be one of my crazy ideas even today. I still have that strong yearning to experience the thrills of taking the command of the wheel, driving with much power and speed… awesome and beyond description! Because of this, I want to elevate it as one of the “Things that I would love to do”--- in this sense, I would exert extra efforts to do it within the near future. For my high speed driving experience, I had selected six (6) of the high speed cars available today (information available in their respective websites were used as references to their descriptions). Series 16: "The List" #3 - Thirty Crazy Things I Would Love To Do
This is the 16th series of the guessing game I posted in twitter and facebook. For a backgrounder, please refer to my post entitled "Series 1: The List #3 - Thirty Crazy Things I Would Love To Do" dated 1/29/2012.
#18 Crazy Things I Would Love To Do
SEDUCE MY SPECIAL FRIEND AND EVENTUALLY DUMP HIM ONCE HE HAS FALLEN
Although I was not able to put into actions my #16 and #17 crazy ideas, my desire to win over my special one did not died down. I continued to do things that would make us closer again. He was my first love and I was his first love… and as the song goes “first love never dies”.
As days gone by, I observed that although he was almost around when I called him, he seems not at ease when we were together. Then one day, while eating in the canteen, a woman came barging at us, telling me that she is the girlfriend of my companion. I could not remember exactly what my action was, but to my knowledge I left them arguing with each other.
Under any circumstances, I hated my special one because of that situation. I was his best friend and he should have the courage to tell me that he has a girlfriend already. I was hurt and in my anger, I contemplated to do actions that would hurt him also. In such situation, my devilish mind was at its best and my #18 crazy idea was hatched. As such, I devised actions on how to undertake my intentions. I called these actions as:
THE ART OF SEDUCING
Seducing is the art of making your love interest aware of your intentions/feelings and hopefully, will reciprocate the same. It requires unique skills, but exciting and challenging. One should be mischievous enough to think ways of seducing someone you like.
- Strategy 1: Since I know his likes and dislikes, I would tell his girlfriend his greatest dislikes. But I will tell her instead that these are his greatest likes. Example: he despises women wearing mini-skirts… then, I will tell her that she should wear mini-skirts since he likes seeing women in mini-skirts.
- Strategy 2: Pretend that I am not hurt and I can still be his best friend. Thereby, he could confess to me his problems/issues/concerns with her. Then I will give him advises that would make their situation more complicated.
- Strategy 3: I would invite them to a family gathering and I would constantly remind him of our happy days. I would tease him to death even in front of his girlfriend.
- Strategy 4: I would flirt all the way. I’ll praise him even in front of his girlfriend. I’ll see to it that I will always complement his views, giving my nods even if I know that he is wrong. I’ll be their constant companion, but making sure that I will get most of his attention.
- Strategy 5: Well my friends, so many ways to skin a cat...let me know yours...

Crazy Things I Would Love To Do
#16 “COURT A GUY I LIKE”
#17 “WRITE MY LOVE STORY AND SEND IT TO TELEVISION/RADIO PROGRAM”
#17 “WRITE MY LOVE STORY AND SEND IT TO TELEVISION/RADIO PROGRAM”
My #16 and #17 crazy ideas were offshoots of my actions in 8, 9 and 15. In 8 and 9, I followed my goal of studying hard with no disruptions from whatever form. I changed course in order to evade falling in love with my special friend. In my intention of getting higher grades to maintain my scholarship and finally able to graduate, I concentrated all my efforts with my studies. I antagonized and scared every man that would try to get closer to me. I became annoying and almost a man hater. This happened for almost three years.
In #15, I was ready for a new relationship. With just few months away from graduation, I was sure that I would complete my college education. I started to make “pa-cute” with the boys with the intention of getting their attention. Actually, my ultimate aim was to get back to my special friend in #8. After I changed course in #8, we remained friends, but not as close as the way we were. We saw each other occasionally only.
In my strong desire to get the attention of my special friend, I contemplated of courting him just like a man would woo a woman to win her love. As a start, I planned to send him love letters, followed by flowers and chocolates. I would also try to see him more often, invite him to see movies, and attend mass together.
At the same time, I considered writing my love story highlighting my desires and intentions to get back my special friend into my world. Furthermore, I planned to send it to a radio or television program. And I would make it sure that we would watch or listen to it together.
However, my being a conservative coupled by my upbringing as a catholic prevailed. As such, my plans did not materialized. What happened now with my love story? Expect more surprises in my next issue of my crazy thing I would love to do.

#15 Crazy Thing I Would Love To Do
“FALL IN LOVE DEEPLY --- HELPLESSLY AND UNCONDITIONALLY”
I was then in my 5th year college… with no boyfriend since birth! All my friends had boy/girl friends. During that time, I think I am ready to try this new world for me! I wished if I fall, I would fall completely. And I promised myself that I would strive hard to make our relationship lasting and forever. My attitude was that “no matter what… whatever it takes”! I love him and he loves me period! At the same time, I would like also to experience that wonderful feeling of complete submission, since I am always independent and domineering. This is what I learned from all the love novels that I had read.
I don't have to go to Paris to fall in love. I want to fall in love anywhere, then go to Paris to celebrate our togetherness. Joyce Sy, we are both crazy when it comes to love!
However, my friends warned me that there is no such utopian state. Though such state is perfect but most of the time, it is impractical. Thus, as a result I might just be disappointed. This led to mind boggling issues to ponder:” Is there such a thing falling in love deeply… helplessly and unconditionally?; and “Would the situation warrant this?. Given this scenario, we had an argument that until now has not been resolved. I called this argument as “The Power Struggle Between the Mind and Heart”. I listed hereunder some of the important points for each argument.
“Mind over Heart”
- We have the power to control our emotions.
- We were created with the head above the heart.
- The mind can recognize what our heart desires, and it will react with sense and logic. In the broad end of the spectrum, our heart will usually respond against everything that makes sense, and make illogical decision. And this decision will often cause more trouble than it is worth.
- We have the power to control our thoughts.
- Happiness comes within our heart.
- Our mind is most sensible when it comes to solving logical issues, but we cannot fully trust it when it comes to real life issues. We always need the heart to fully comprehend real life issues and judge according to our feelings. Sometimes, we need to make illogical decisions to attain a logical situation.
As for me, it is still best to use both of them when it comes to decision-making and it really depends on the situation. When matters concerning love, I strongly believe that it is perfect when there is a meeting between the mind and the heart.
Did I resolve anything? I realized that I am still in utopian state. But as we grow, we become wiser and more concern of our happiness. The more important thing now is that we are happy in everything we do. And what is happiness? According to Gandhi, “happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony”.
So which one: “heart over mind” or “mind over heart”? --- I still don’t know and I have no idea!

Tattooing is an ancient practice that can be traced thousands years ago. Mummies found in relics have markings in different parts of their bodies. It is believed that tattoos have been used by different cultures in the past as a way of identification. Members of a tribe wore inked symbols primarily to mark their status.
Before 1980s, tattoos were not yet socially accepted. It was considered low class and vulgar. People, during those times wore tattoos with unique design that would describe their affiliation to a particular group. It was a visible design used so they could recognize each other.
It was in the early part of the 1980s that tattoos had become a part of fashion trends. Tattoo was an iconic symbol of 1980s in conjunction with the “teenage mutant ninja turtles”, Scooby Doo, Madonna, and Bon Jovi. It was in this era that the art of tattooing was considered as a fine art, and become a part of the mainstream culture, accepted by any gender and background.
As of today, tattooing is a common and widespread practice. Undeniably, more and more famous celebrities are having tattoos in their bodies. Based on my research, a partial list of these popular actors and actresses are as follows:
As of today, because of its popularity and acceptability, I still have this crazy idea of getting a tattoo. I wanted the image of a snake on my nape with its head peering on the side of my neck towards the front. Snake is a versatile animal and has many symbolic values.
It was a belief in Greek traditions that knowledge, power and protection came from the moon and the goddess who ruled it, through her chosen animal, the snake. The “Kundalini Yoga” reveres the snake for its flexibility, which believes that there is a coil of spiritual energy in the body that resembles a snake, and freeing this inner snake leads to enlightenment.
As of now, I haven't decided yet which of these snake designs I would choose for my tattoo. Please help me in deciding which one is the best for me by choosing the letter. Please write your chosen letter in the comment section.
