The Glimpse from the Past

Dreams are somewhat of stories our brain tell us while we are sleeping.  They are either collections of imaginations and past memories.  However, what if those past memories are not yours, what if they were past events that happened to a specific area???

One time, my friends and I decided to just sleep over a friend’s apartment because it was already very late to go home.  In my sleep, I had a dream that I was on a tight alley running towards a door until a man with a large stature held my neck by his elbow and stabbed me several times on the gut.  I felt the pointed object penetrated my body like a plastic water jug full of water, I felt the warm blood oozing on my belly while he was stabbing me.  I was hoping that my entrails would not come out and finally I was praying that I survive.

I managed to push him back and ran several feet away from him until I fell down and suddenly woke up gasping for air.  My friend ask me if I was having a bad dream and told him what happened.  He then told me that there was an incident of stabbing in that area several years ago.  I do not know if that man survived but who knows, I didn’t investigate further.

Impossible but it happened to me!

My ‘Out-of-this-World’ Experience - Season 2

Have you ever had experience a phenomenon that cannot be explained no matter how you tried to understand it?  Are you familiar with the phrase ‘beyond one’s imagination or understanding’?  If you have this some sort of experience that makes you feel that hair-raising/eerie or déjà vu feeling, please share through email message to merlinagp@gmail.com.  It is my pleasure to post your experience in this Blog.  Let the circle of sharing begins.
Unclear Imagination
Months ago, my best friend once shared to me a short-story… “I heard a loud sound outside the window. I checked on it and saw a featherless chicken-faced and human-like creature with big pointed wings, long beak, with a very thin body structure. I was very shocked and with too much fear, I almost cried and immediately ran downstairs”.

It is very popular in movies and even in ghostly tales the story of those creatures called “tiktik”.  In the Filipino folklore, these are mythical creatures mostly feared by women carrying a child or is pregnant.  It was theorized that the “tiktik” watches over on the roof of a house, extends its long tongue into the pregnant woman’s tummy while she is asleep, takes advantage and starts to eat the baby inside.

I am actually five months pregnant now while telling this tale.  It was a very tiring day for me.  I went home straight off from work and realized it was seven in the evening already.  So, I decided to take some rest first before eating my dinner.

After changing clothes to a more comfortable one, I went directly to bed.  It took me minutes to finally get a comfortable sleeping position for my growing belly.  I held my tummy, rubbed it for a while because it just feels good.  I closed my eyes and started to feel relaxed, fantasizing what could be the gender of my first born and thought how amazing a woman’s body is to be used as a shelter of a growing baby before it fully sees the real world.

I was on the beautiful side of my imagination when and somehow I could not ignore the darker side…  I was alone and thought, “Is a tiktik real?”  After hearing my best friend’s story about this, I was really curious about it.  I started to feel creepy after becoming conscious of the window facing the bed foot.

I calmed myself and decided to just close my eyes and go to sleep. But then, later on, I heard some weird metal roof footsteps, with some unexplained flapping wings and a little sound of a high-pitched voice sounding like a witch on movies.  It did last for a couple of seconds which caused me to panic.  Luckily, exactly on time, someone opened the door.  I am now with my best friend.  I almost forgot that she will visit me that day.  I told her what happened, and asked her to not leave me alone…

Impossible but it happened to me!

The Unfamiliar Voices
 https://thoughtcatalog.com/lorenzo-jensen-iii/2017/10/37-schizophrenic-people-describe-the-terrifying-voices-they-hear/
When I was young kid, I had a really big room, with my bed wedged into the corner, directly opposite of it was the door. My parents always made me close the door when I went to bed, as well as pull down the shades completely, which left the entire room pitch black whenever I went to bed. And when I say pitch-black, I mean real dark with no hint of moonlight or anything else in the room.

Now, that in itself was not really a big deal…  I have never been scared of the dark and I knew my way around that old room even in my sleep. There was never really anything odd that happened, until one morning…  I woke up a bit earlier than usual. I think it was around five because I was hearing voices. I immediately recognized them as NOT being my parents.  At the start they were just whispering. I cannot remember what they were talking about, but I remember that as soon as I quietly called out, being the naughty kid that I was, they grew even louder and faster with more and more voices talking all at once. One over the other until the room was filled with incomprehensible chatter.

I panicked, scrambled out of bed, and tried making my way towards the door with the voices ever growing louder. And now that I was slowly moving through my room, arms stretched out to the front so I would not run into the walls, I heard some of the voices started laughing, and I distinctly remember them laughing in a very mocking manner, taunting me for something. When I finally reached my door and just pulled it open, everything was silent IMMEDIATELY. Like no such thing ever happened. When I told my parents about what happened earlier, they said that they both did not even hear anything. Although I thought that they were probably asleep at the time anyway.

After that though, I never entered a pitch-black room again without some sort of light source. I always tipped my shutters slightly open to allow at least a bit of light into the room and still do that to this day…

Impossible but it happened to me!

About the Author
James Rollin is a New York best selling author of international thrillers. His books has been translated into more than 40 languages. The "Sigma Series" books, in which I was introduced to this Author has been lauded as one of the 'top crowd pleasers

A Glimpse of the Book
Jack Kirkland emerges from the bottom of the sea! From an aborted underwater salvage mission, he finds the world on a disastrous situation - solar flares, earthquakes and hell fires triggered by natural disasters.

The United States is on the brink of a nuclear apocalypse, with the Air Force One missing and the President on board.

Jack Kirkland must pilot his salvage vessel 'Deep Fathom' into a deadly mission deep below the surface of the ocean.

Will Jack Kirkland and his friends save the world?

My Personal Take on the Book
playful mind and imagination...great research... action-packed...
thought provoking
I know it's a fiction but the possibility of the story becoming a reality is not impossible. Understanding the past and having the vast knowledge of today's information might result in a future described in the book.

The formula: science + history + imagination = marvelous fiction as good as reality!

It is a great read, a thriller adventure that takes you to the bottom of the ocean as well as to the opening of sky. I don't want to put it down until the end.

Jack Kirkland and friends, saving the world in a time ship ... resetting the world before the eclipse!!! Don't just imagine... read the book, so you'll know.

A NIGHT WITH THE SHADOW
There is a belief that one should have at least avoid conducting a party or happy events when there is a relative who just passed away for at least 40 days (babang luksa) after death.  Not only will it seem inappropriate to anyone but it can disrespect the memories of those who died before us.  Unfortunately, one of my friend who didn’t believe in such and instead spent time with his friends to forget the sadness he felt will be taught he should do otherwise.
This happened when my friend’s grandmother died last September this year.  In order to bid farewell to his grandmother, their family spend a week in Marinduque.  He later went home from the province earlier than his parents because he said that he did not want to feel the bad atmosphere that their family has been experiencing maybe because they felt that they should have spent more time taking care of his old grandma.
When he came back to Makati, he gathered our friends and told us that he will be buying beer for the night because he did not want to spend the night alone.  Confused and hesitant, we tried to talk to him that it is not a good idea to have a drink when his grandmother just died.  He then again explained to us that it is a way for him to lighten up the mood.  Most of my friends agreed because it is a free drink for everyone.  I was forced to go after they went to my house and encouraged me that we will just chill and will turn the noise down.
After drinking most of the liquor he bought for us, some of my friends got too drunk and fell asleep while sitting.  The owner of the house was a heavy drinker but would later fall down and knock himself drunk.  After we finished all the booze, we fixed the things we used and woke everyone up specially the owner of the house.
As we are making our way home, one of my friend saw a shadow in the kitchen as if it is running.  We were all alarmed and tried to find if there was a thief in the house. As we went to the kitchen, we all saw a shadow of a person with no physical body running towards the door. As we are stunned on what we saw, a crashing sound from a bottle that fell was heard on the living room.  We were shocked to see the bottles all scattered and destroyed.  It was clearly an indication that the owner of the shadow didn’t appreciate our presence and actions that night.
My friend deeply regretted his actions and told his mother about everything.  We were shocked to know that his mother dreamed about the shadow and told us that it was her mother who taught us that our actions showed insensitivity and disrespect towards the dead.  She also added that the dog that was with them in Marinduque suddenly died.  The said event will serve a great lesson that we should be careful for our actions in the future…

Emma
Death is one of the mysteries of life where no one came back to tell the tales.  Even the existence of the soul is quite debatable but I firmly believe that there are things that happened to us that is unexplainable even up to this modern time.  The soul of our beloved who have passed away, they try to reach us either through dreams or physical manifestation.  These events are somewhat mixed emotions for the dead that may never come to life again and afraid, you are somewhat happy to know that they are here.
There is a superstition in our province that the widower must stay in his room for seven days without direct eye contact to anyone even to his family members except to another widower and breaking it would cause another tragedy.  This unexplainable event had happened while my grandfather was performing this ritual where the presence of my deceased grandmother was felt on the third day after her burial.  The house was filled with her favorite perfume, Johnson's baby cologne in “heaven” and my godfather also a widower saw a figure in white dress walking to my grandparent’s room, maybe it is Nanay Emma visiting your grandfather he said.  We were startled but at least we know that their love had defied death.

Children Knows
I am a first time Mom to a two year old active (most times, hyperactive) baby girl.  Dealing with a child for the first time in my life, I am still experiencing and learning a lot than I have ever imagined.  A toddler is beautiful, complicated, complex and everything all at once.

My child, even in her early age, is very good with words and is very expressive with her speech and gestures.  She conveys her feelings and observations very well.  One particular night, I was in a way amused and somewhat scared of her reaction.  She would not stop crying over something I do not know about.  She was really weeping as if mourning for something or someone.  I had a very hard time comforting her and at a point I was even worried that perhaps something was wrong.

Indeed something was wrong but not as I expected…  I was still confused by her “crying episode” that was very much intense than the usual only to find out that my dearest Aunt, who happened to be so fond of her, just died.  She was just confined in her home next to us in an almost comatose stage.

After learning this, I was the one who ended up crying.  She was there my baby, watching me weep for my beloved Aunt who just left us…  When to my surprise, she uttered “It’s okay Mimi” (our term for Mom).  It was very consoling, amusing, and in a way scary too.  That moment was indeed a mixture of emotions.  From fear, sadness, amusement…  It was an emotional moment I will surely remember.  Moments like that makes me wonder and somewhat believe that children know a lot more than we might think, perhaps than what we actually do…

The Woman Who Saved My Life
When I was a little girl, about eight years old then, I went with my mom to visit her aunt in their house in Bagong Barrio, Caloocan City. Their house was so big, a two-storey bungalow type with basement. My cousins were not around during our visit. I was so bored, as little girls visiting old ladies are, so I had wandered up to the second floor of the house to play by myself.

There was this big balcony up there with sliding glass doors and these really floaty, flimsy curtains over them. I thought that it will be great fun playing on them. So I twirled around under these curtains and walked away from the glass doors, allowing the curtain to be dragged off my face, as little kids would do.

Now the problem was that these curtains were RIGHT above the stairs. There was no railing or anything, it was just a straight drop, eight feet down to the first floor, onto the hard stairs. As a young and little me, I didn’t think of any possible harm such “game” might cause.

After a couple of minutes I still went on playing and I start my twirling again, curtains over my eyes so I can’t see anything, and then I started walking… And then I felt a hand grab the back of my shirt, pulling me back hard enough to stop walking, and felt another hand, very distinctly a hand, grab at the curtain over my face and pulled it back to show that I was standing right at the edge of the drop-off.

When I turned around, thinking it was my mom or her aunt, there was absolutely no one there! Not in the room… Not near me… No one was there… Only me! I screamed like a banshee and ran downstairs wailing.

That was when my mom’s aunt decided to tell us that in that house, a woman had died on the second floor, a few days before her wedding for unknown reason. She was said to never hurt or harm anyone, but sometimes they would see her standing by the window looking out, or just randomly roaming around the second floor.

I mean it was actually nice of her to stop me from breaking my face open on the stairs, but it was still pretty overwhelming for me as a little kid who had no clue… Impossible but it happened to me!

WUT??? (WHAT???)
When I was a child my family moved to an apartment, with big empty rooms and creaking floorboards. Both my parents worked so I was often alone when I came home from school. One early evening when I came home the house was still dark.

I called out, “Mum?” and heard her sing song voice say “Yeeeeees?” from upstairs. I called her again as I climbed the stairs to see which room she was in, and again got the same “Yeeeeees?” reply. We were decorating at the time, and I didn’t know my way around the maze of rooms but she was in one of the far ones, right down the hall. I felt uneasy, but I figured that was only natural so I rushed forward to see my mum, knowing that her presence would calm my fears, as a mother’s presence always does.

Just as I reached for the handle of the door to let myself in to the room, I heard the front door downstairs open and my mother call “Sweetie, are you home?” in a cheery voice. I jumped back, startled and ran down the stairs to her, but as I glanced back from the top of the stairs, the door to the room slowly opened a crack. For a brief moment, I saw something strange in there, and I don’t know what it was, but it was staring at me.

Impossible but it happened to me!

Birthday happens once a year and that day is your most important and memorable experience annually. And one of my birthdays is my not so enjoyable but still as memorable… I am referring to what was then my 7th birthday.

My family prepared me a children’s party on my 7th birthday. And our neighbors, neighbors’ kids, my uncles, aunties, and cousins were all invited to the said event. The program started with party games, magic show, of course with clowns and lastly the blowing of candle.

I have just like some other kids, this irrational fear of what seemed unusual or other “eerie” stuff like dolls or so. That time, I had to bear for the duration of my whole party, the sight of the two clowns that were supposed to bring me joy instead of scare.

That same night on my birthday, I had to spend even in sleep the fearful sight of clowns present in my nightmare. That was the birthday I can never forget. Other than the memorable time of bidding goodbye to being a toddler and spending time with the dearest people in my life as a kid, I also came to realize some of my life’s fears. That is for one… Clowns!

Transformed
It was a great Sunday family night bonding at home. Everyone was watching the television while eating our favorite ice cream, cookies and cream flavor. But after a creepy commercial break, my mom was reminded and started telling us a story of her own experience of an unforgettable scary moment of her life.

She was before living in Bicol, where she was born and raised. I was aware of her family owning a big farmland in their town. Her father, my Lolo (grandfather), was a great farmer with a good hand on their animals. It was a simple life for their family.

Her story goes this way... It was night then; all lights were out and they were all deeply sleeping. My mom was about 10 years of age that time and third from the eldest of 6 siblings, with a 2-year-old youngest. They were all suddenly awoke, frightened by a loud cry from an unidentified creature.

My Lolo ran to open the lights and followed immediately whoever might have gotten into their house. Everyone was almost awake because of the commotion. Mom followed her Dad to also look to see who it might be. But she was frightened to see a man, its body is fully covered with hair. Though she only saw its half body because it was already crossing the other door going to the kitchen, she was certain on what she saw.

They followed it to the kitchen… They did not saw any shadow of a man. Instead, only a cat that jumped over the window and her youngest brother sleeping on the kitchen. It was a mystery on how his brother got into the kitchen when all of them are at the room sleeping together.

It was like the unknown creature was about to steal away his brother but failed to cross it to the window. Mom said, “There are many incidents like these, especially in the provinces. I may not saw how that shape-shifting creature transformed, or we may not have captured the man I saw but I am grateful that my sibling was saved.

The Bad Feeling
When I was in college studying at the University of Makati, I lived by myself.  I was a working student back then. I rented a room on a nearby relative’s house so I can have my own time alone. I would honestly think of nothing but walking to nearby places at night.  There was a 24-hour KFC, Chowking, Wendy’s and a 7 Eleven near BGC that I would walk to, often between 12am to 3am since I was a massive night owl.
Well one night, after finishing an essay at about two in the morning, I felt I was hungry and I realized that haven’t eaten dinner yet. And since I didn’t really have anything easy to cook so I decided to walk down to the 7 eleven and grab an instant meal or something. However as soon as I opened my door I was overcome by a suffocating feeling of fear, my heart started pounding, I started shaking. Telling myself that this was ridiculous I walked out to the street with the intent to still go out but that was as far as I got. My stomach was crumbling and my whole body was shivering. I was terrified for no reason and I could not understand why.  But no less intensely I ran back inside and luckily, I manage to find some rice remaining in the rice cooker and some soy sauce from the cupboard and it was that peculiar food I settled with and ate during that time.
Later the next day, I heard about a group of drunk guys that have caused havoc near the intersection at the 7 eleven that night.  They had beaten up someone inside and dragged him outside the store and the said person also happens to be a student from my university.  Even though I cannot explain it, I am strongly convinced that something bad would have happened to me that night if I had ignored the bad feeling and have gone anyway or maybe I was just really hungry that I cannot bear to go outside.

Impossible but it happened to me!

Mysterious Tree Along 'Daang Hari' Road
There are plenty of places here in the Philippines that are being considered as haunted. Among this list are the Balete Drive in Quezon City, Hyatt Terraces Hotel and Dominican Hill Retreat House of Baguio, Siquijor, among others.  These places have something in common…  Either the above-mentioned places have some urban legend behind it or a horrific accident/event have occurred involving tragic deaths for people. With this given, the story that I will share to you will be involving one of the places that have some horrific stories behind it.  The story will revolve around the place called 'Daang Hari' in Cavite.
This happened when we are on our way from Batangas, Calatagan after we took a video to be added in our Christmas Short Film to be presented in our Department. It was a long tiring day. Everyone was exhausted and still frightened after we almost got ourselves involved into a traffic accident. Luckily, we have avoided our ill fate as our driver (Jesus’, a co-worker’s brother) successfully made the car slip a car collision after he almost fell asleep while driving. After that incident, we all offered a thanksgiving prayer as we ate what we considered as “not the last supper” in Tagaytay before hitting the road again.
It was suggested by my colleague to take a short cut at 'Daang Hari' in order for us to make it home earlier as we spend too much time recuperating in Tagaytay. As it was agreed to take the said route, we earnestly hit the 'Daang Hari' Road in Cavite. It was already dark and the road seemed creepy.  At around 7:30 in the evening, we made it to 'Daang Hari' when suddenly one of the two vehicles from our division’s convoy stopped. Unfortunately, the vehicle malfunctioned and Chris (the owner and also the driver of the car) did not know what seemed to be the problem. In order for some of us to make it back home before midnight, it was decided that all the girls along with other people from the team that needed to go back home earlier ride the van that was previously almost caught into an accident. Sir June (our supervisor) along with me and 3 others decided to accompany Chris as we were waiting for his father to arrive and help us tow the car. As we are waiting for the help, we observed that there were few vehicles that have passed in front of the big tree in 'Daang Hari' that experienced the same incident. Their vehicle suddenly stopped and the driver were forced to come out of their car or stepped down on their motorcycle to see what seemed to be the problem. We witnessed five similar incidents but luckily, they have later successfully fixed their vehicle and hit back to the road.  We are the only ones who were stuck in the said creepy situation in that dark roadside.
As we waited for a long period of time, we had time to chat about our observation on the place and why there are similar incidents on the same spot in front of the big tree. As we were all curious about the big tree in 'Daang Hari', Sir June told me to try to search for information about the road and probable stories behind the big scary tree.  We were shocked as we read an article about 'Daang Hari' Road. It was stated in the article along with the comments the reader who experienced the same kind of incident that claimed that 'Daang Hari' Road used to be a dumping site of murder and rape victims. The location is said to be perfect for criminals because it used to be a rough road with miles and miles of tall grasses where no lights are installed. Some comments about 'Daang Hari' Road states that many vehicles encountered battery problem on the said area. While some said that it was a scam because there are many who experienced flat tire mostly in front of the tree but some just cannot explain why many people tend to have a vehicle problem on the said area. As Chris’ father arrived to help us tow his son’s car and assist us on our way home, he explained that there were countless dead bodies that were thrown particularly on the grass part of the road in the past. The big tree along the 'Daang Hari' Road is the only witness.
As we travelled on our way home, we decided to detour on another route to avoid further travelling the creepy road. It was then that it came to my mind that maybe the vehicles were being stopped on the said area by the victims’ souls as they seek someone who will bring them justice or will share a ride for them to make it back home.

MIRACLE
“Angel of God, my guardian dear, to whom God's love commits me here; Ever this day, be at my side, to light and guard, to rule and guide…  Amen”.  This prayer was taught to us by our parents and I didn’t know that it was very effective until I met an accident last January nearly facing death itself.

I was biking on my way to my fiance's house to celebrate her birthday around 6 PM.  Halfway to the said destination, passing C-5 flyover, when suddenly an SUV type vehicle suddenly side swept making me lose control and hit on the concrete barrier.  On that moment, I know my life will end for I will land on the other side of the barrier which is approximately five-storey high.  I asked myself whether I am ready for death or not while seeing my landing spot then I just closed my eyes while accepting my fate and then suddenly a miracle happened…

Upon crashing, I landed head first which made one of my teeth fly out from my mouth while several other were broken and I have had bad bruises and open wounds all over my arms.  After I spitted blood and sat on the floor while leaning on the concrete barrier, I looked up and said “Thank you Lord!  I’m alive…  Somehow”.  I waited for a couple of minutes for someone to pick me up and help but nobody came.  I mustered all the energy left in my body to grab my bicycle, assessed if it was still working and drove myself to my dentist who luckily also have a physician husband.

After a month, I recovered but I am always asking myself if I am already dead?

Impossible but it happened to me!
