The phrase 'calculated risk' sounds like an oxymoron. It could be argued that taking a calculated step in some way means that it's everything but risky. But then again, it can also mean that the element of risk has been weighed up properly and sensibly. 'Calculated' can ensure that risk as been kept to a minimum. You can trust that your assessment of a risk is accurate now.
