Don't Worry, Be Happy

   But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control. - - - Galatians 5:22 - 23

Don't worry.  Be Happy!" says the lyrics of a song --- and why not?  Doesn't everyone want happiness? Happiness in life is conditional and fleeting.  It is usually dependent on circumstances, environment, achievement or pleasure.  We've placed far too much emphasis on happiness as a right that we deserve.
There is something far more important than happiness; it is joy.  Happiness is dependent on circumstance; joy transcends them.  You can be joyful even when you aren't happy.  Happiness, as the world defines it, involves your environment --- your home, your money, your friends and your health.  But joy is internal.  Happiness is usually temporary; but joy is abiding and reamins even when beauty fades.  Happiness is material; joy is spiritual.  Happiness involves life here and now; joy includes both time and eternity.
The Bible says little about happiness but much about joy.  The New Testament writers say that joy is the fruit of the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit.

You are powerless, silenced, washed up. You have overestimated your talents and your intelligence. You are not as likeable as you think. There now, Taurus, is that enough browbeating for the day? Or would you like some more? Actually, if that were to happen to you then you would probably consider it unfair. However, you are now doing something similar to yourself. You are not, for some reason, able to recognize just how attractive, intelligent, appealing, kind, desirable, and powerful you really are. Be your own cheerleader, and you will make your life infinitely better.
