Today's Inspiration: Cleansing for All

Cleanse me with the hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow....   
Psalm 51:7

No person is perfect that he does not need cleansing and forgiveness. Paul said this about the cleansing by God's Spirit: "Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word" (Ephesians 5:25-26). True, we sin against others and must learn to seek forgiveness, but ultimately the issue is between the individual and the Maker.

Psalm 51 is a prayer of David. In it he cried out, "Have mercy on me, O God according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. Wash away my all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin" (Psalm 51:4). David knew that he had sinned against Bathsheba. He knew he had sinned against Uriah, her husband. But he also recognized that he had sinned against God. He cried out, "Against you [God], you only have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight" (Psalm 51:4).

But there is good news. What David sought is what God dispenses. To find cleansing and forgiveness, you only need ask God for it.
