"Malazan Book of the Fallen" Series
I got to read the books because of a dare from a friend. I agreed with
his observation that reading the series engages the mind more than the heart. The series, consisting of 10 books belong
to the high fantasy genre. Book reviewers concurred that it raised the bar for
fantasy literature. While most of the reviewers observed that it is for most advanced readers.... hmmm... for me, it is more for the serious and dedicated readers!
Erikson created a world so vast that the setting of the ‘Game of Thrones’ is just a small dot on the Malazan map. The scope and magnitude of the story is so enormous that I lost track of the characters as well as the time element. It is a multi-layered story with complex plotlines spanning 300 millennia.
It was the first time in my reading experience that I was not
able to predict correctly the end of the series. Each book engages me differently, but I was
looking forward to the revelation in book ten for the completion of the series.
Although all books were already available when I started reading the series, I
just realized that I didn’t even think to just read the last book (10th). Because of the good reviews, I savored
reading the 10 books.
It was a difficult read but to some extent, I was challenged
to finish the series. After the 4th
book, I stopped figuring-out what will happen next…. I’ll just let myself surprised on the few
pages left in a book. Just
read it for yourself, and decide for yourself!
