It is very popular in movies and even in ghostly tales the story of those creatures called “tiktik”. In the Filipino folklore, these are mythical creatures mostly feared by women carrying a child or is pregnant. It was theorized that the “tiktik” watches over on the roof of a house, extends its long tongue into the pregnant woman’s tummy while she is asleep, takes advantage and starts to eat the baby inside.
I am actually five months pregnant now while telling this tale. It was a very tiring day for me. I went home straight off from work and realized it was seven in the evening already. So, I decided to take some rest first before eating my dinner.
After changing clothes to a more comfortable one, I went directly to bed. It took me minutes to finally get a comfortable sleeping position for my growing belly. I held my tummy, rubbed it for a while because it just feels good. I closed my eyes and started to feel relaxed, fantasizing what could be the gender of my first born and thought how amazing a woman’s body is to be used as a shelter of a growing baby before it fully sees the real world.
I was on the beautiful side of my imagination when and somehow I could not ignore the darker side… I was alone and thought, “Is a tiktik real?” After hearing my best friend’s story about this, I was really curious about it. I started to feel creepy after becoming conscious of the window facing the bed foot.
I calmed myself and decided to just close my eyes and go to sleep. But then, later on, I heard some weird metal roof footsteps, with some unexplained flapping wings and a little sound of a high-pitched voice sounding like a witch on movies. It did last for a couple of seconds which caused me to panic. Luckily, exactly on time, someone opened the door. I am now with my best friend. I almost forgot that she will visit me that day. I told her what happened, and asked her to not leave me alone…
Impossible but it happened to me!

pray every time you go to sleep...
A personal experience of mine that I would love to share would be with a creature called "Aswang" that I happened to have a daily encounter with back in my Highschool days. There would always be a loud thud at the roof every 12am followed shortly by footsteps right above my room. It was a surreal experience and definitely felt out of this world due to the fear that I experienced during the first few times. Over the weeks I got used to it and welcomed it as a daily routine which was very consistent. Encounters with an "Aswang" has always been a prevalent event for my family! Such a shame that most people would never believe it, but nonetheless it is still very real from my experience!
