Experience No. 29:
“The Unforgettable Room”
(Shared by Nona Miranda <nonamiranda1979@gmail.com>)

Perhaps anyone would agree that whenever we plan for an out-of-town trip, the most thrilling part to see, aside from the place itself, is the room.  We are too excited to check-in just to take pictures and make selfies in all corners of our rooms….In every room we stayed in, surely there are memories, bad or good it may be.  In my personal experience, the most “unforgettable room” is in Corregidor…

It was in 2007 when we had our trip to Corregidor with my boss and other supervisors. Upon arrival in the island, we spent the whole morning touring around the historical sites.  After a tiring day tour, nothing else could ever wanted but to check-in to our hotel and get some rest as we will have dinner by 7pm. Finally, we settled in a nice comfortable room enough for three person.  After a short nap, refreshing was the best thing to do so I asked my roommates if I could take the shower first and they happily agreed.  While inside the shower room, I turned on the shower….for a few seconds I waited…. but nothing comes out..? Thinking I did it the wrong way, again, I rotate the shower control clockwise and then counter clockwise,..,repeatedly doing it for about fifteen minutes… To be sure, I also opened the lower faucet to test but there was no water at all!  So busy working it out that I didn’t know it was like 30 minutes past but still to no avail.  With no patience left in me, I asked help from my roommates who are quite surprise upon seeing me still dry and seemed so stressed!  In full force, we were trying to make the shower works but still we failed. We let the shower control open hoping any moment, the water might come out..    Okay so much for the effort, we decided to quit and call up the maintenance to have it worked… You won’t believe it, as we watched how the maintenance rotate the shower control, in just one try, the water comes out! He did same thing as we did!  We were all in daze how did it happen but we just said kiddingly “ Hala! Pinaglalaruan ata tayo ng mga spirits… “ . But at the back of my mind, I can feel something is weird in this room…

Never did I imagine that again another strange event will happen at night…After our dinner and short nightcap, we were all back inside the room ready to sleep. I easily went to sleep since I was not feeling well then. But in the middle of the night, I heard someone was knocking the door. For a moment, I listened carefully and it was a knocking sound coming from our door!.. “thud..thud.. thud..thud..” Who would that be at this hour? If he is someone from our group, he will call our names. I waited for several minutes but no one called… Since our lampshade was on, I can see with my two naked eyes,  it was like a scene in a horror movie,  that our door being opened very very slowly as I heard the knocks and whistling sound of the wind outside…I was froze in fear when my imagination become wild thinking that any moment someone might suddenly appear in front of that door.  As far as I can remember that door was double locked before we went to bed!  I wanted to wake up my roommates but they were already fast asleep underneath their blankets.  That night, the very first thing that comes into my mind was squeezed myself inside my blanket. I didn’t have the nerve to check what’s in that door anymore since I was totally scared.  Then, I searched for my rosary (which I always bring with me) beside my pillow and started to offer a prayer hoping that I would never hear that knocking sound again… Finally after several hours, my prayers were answered, no more sounds...

When my roommates were already up in the morning, I told them what happened last night. Surprisingly, we had same reaction as they were also awake listening to the sound of our door. They may seem asleep inside their blankets but they were also scared awake.  At the same hour of midnight, we discovered that we were silently offering prayers.  All of us had our own rosaries… Over breakfast, we told other officemates about what happened in our room. Nothing weird happened to them but suddenly our boss said “Meron ding nagshower sa amin kagabi.. pinabayaan ko na lang.”  Even her seven-year old daughter asked her who was using their shower that night… As we heard of it, suddenly adds up my fear as we were not alone who experienced something creepy inside the room especially the “shower”!.. All the happenings from the shower thing and the knocks, made a spine-tingling sensation rushing all over my body that I never feel in my almost 9 years of living alone.

As we passed by the hallway of the hotel, my roommate asked one hotel staff if they feel something strange in this place.  He answered that there were actually spirits since the area was once a battlefield and many had died. He added that there is a room in the hotel which has manifestation of spirits activities. He even described the room which has newly installed AC and a frame of mother and child.  For our peace of mind, we hurriedly checked our room! Much to our surprise, it somehow matched with what the staff said! Again, we asked other officemates and even checked their rooms too. It was only our room with newly installed AC and frame.  At that moment, we immediately packed our things, vacate our room then check out! Good thing, we only stayed overnight! I guess what happened to us only shows there are spirits. And I do believe in it.
This Corregidor experience may seem Impossible but it happened to me!.
