When You Forget that God Works the Night Shift

And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved . . . but David encouraged himself in the Lord his God.

One night when worries overwhelmed my sleep, I got out of bed and turned to 1 Samuel 30.  I read about the time when David encountered some very difficult circumstances.  While David and his men were away from home, the Amalekites kidnapped their wives and children and burned the city.  To make matters worse, David’s men turned against him.
“But David encouraged himself in the Lord his God,” it says in verse 6.  David redirected his focus from the darkness of his circumstances to what God had done in the past.  He focused on the nature and character of God, not on his own failure.  He remembered what we usually forget, that God doesn’t abandon us when all trouble breaks looses and the darkness overwhelms us.
Read 1 Samuel 29 and 30, and encourage yourself in the Lord.  Remember: He hasn’t forgotten you.  He hasn’t rejected you, He will not fail you, and he gives you the assurance you can turn out the light and sleep.

You have been relying on the opinions, evaluations, and guidance of someone else for far too long. It has become something of a habit, Taurus, but it is a habit that you need to break. It may be that this person offers good opinions, evaluation, and guidance - however, your own are even better. You need to start trusting yourself more. You need to begin relying on yourself more. The next time you need encouragement, or you need to make an important decision and you have the urge to make that call - try to rely on yourself alone. You can do it.
