Series 9: "The List" #3 - Thirty Crazy Things I Would Love To Do

The Tale of the Guesses of the "Crazy Things"

This is the 9th series of the guessing game I posted in twitter and facebook.  For a backgrounder, please refer to my post entitled "Series 1: The List #3 - Thirty Crazy Things I Would Love To Do" dated 1/29/2012.

#10 Crazy Thing I Would Love To Do
 “FLYING A JET FIGHTER

At an early age, I wanted to become the first woman astronaut or a military pilot.  It was a dream that never came to be.  This crazy thought might have been influenced by this unfulfilled dream and the “cold war”.

The “cold war” was a conflict between the communist block led by the Soviet Union and the western block led by the United States.  It was a continuing state of political and military tension between the powers of the western world, led by the United States and its NATO allies, and the communist world, led by the Soviet Union, its satellite states and allies. The conflict was expressed through military coalitions, strategic conventional force deployments, extensive aid to states, espionage, propaganda, conventional and nuclear arms races, appeals to neutral nations, rivalry at sports events, and technological competitions such as the Space Race.

I was so fascinated by the idea of espionage and propaganda.  I fantasized myself as a top military pilot specializing in counter espionage.  As such, my job requires flying a jetfighter over enemies' airspaces undetected.  I was particularly interested in two (2) aircrafts: F-16 by the Americans and the MiG-29 by the Russians.
The F-16 known officially as the "Fighting Falcon" is a multirole jet fighter aircraft originally developed by General Dynamics for the United States Air Force (USAF). It was designed as an air superiority day fighter and later evolved into a successful all-weather multirole aircraft. It has been in used by the USAF since 1976.  Although the official name of the F-16 is "Fighting Falcon", it is known to its pilots as the "Viper", due to a perceived resemblance to a viper snake as well as after the Battlestar Galactica Colonial Viper starfighter.

The Russian “Mikoyan MiG-29” or otherwise known as “Fulcrum” by NATO is a 4th generation jet fighter aircraft.  It was designed by the Soviet Union as an air superiority machine.  It was developed in the 1970s, used by the Soviet Air Force in 1983, and still remains being used by the Russian Air Force as well as in other foreign nations.
The MiG-29 was primarily developed to counter the American fighters such as the McDonnell Douglas F-15 Eagle, and the General Dynamics F-16 Fighter Falcon.
